This won't be brief but as I'm leaving a low rating I feel detail is necessary as to why I gave Charlie Mae's Soul Food 2-stars. I placed an online order at 3:13pm, was told to expect it to be ready by 3:43pm, I'm there and head inside at 3:50pm. Wait at the order counter for 5 minutes before the young lady deems I've waited long enough and comes over to ask what I need. Order # is given and I was told it will be up in 5 minutes --- 15 minutes later she announces food is ready... no takers though because of the half dozen people waiting inside for their orders, this one wasn't for any of us apparently. 5 minutes later, after waiting just shy of an hour for my order, some of it gets to the counter. Yes, I said only some of my food. I'm informed after I've paid, after I stood in the lobby for 30 extra minutes, that they never had this item I paid for to begin with. No problem, I'd just like to be on my way at this point so I'll just grab a refund for the item and be on my way. Wrong. The young lady tells me I can't do that at this location and I'll have to call the original Charlie Mae's location to process a refund. Long story long I spoke with a manager named Marcus at the other location who told me to text him a picture of my receipt and his wife would fix it by close of business the next day since they in fact could not fix it over the phone as the original cashier stated and it would have to be fixed at the original order location. Here I am, 2 days later, with no refund, writing this review. Folks, it's not about the out of stock item or the missing money. Neither of those particularly matter when nothing else stood out to make me interested in coming back. The food alone is what gave this interaction 2 stars, as it was good, aside from the mac and cheese (which seems to be a theme in other reviews). I won't be returning, and am disappointed the spiritual successor to Papa Joe's Fish-n-Que (the name of the restaurant previously at the Bethany Home location) wasn't up to the task. Be sure to sort google reviews by newest as it unfortunately looks like Charlie Mae's is trending downward towards 3 stars and lower overall. Best of luck to the owners and staff.
