Top Reviews of Del's Bar & Restaurant

I worked at Del's for a little over two months. This was the third restaurant that I have worked in, and I started working at Del's because it was closer to my home. Anyway, initially, I liked the restaurant and the relaxed atmosphere. However, during my third day of training, one of the servers "jokingly" told me that the restaurant was full of cockroaches, mice and rats. The server said it jokingly, so I didn't pay it any attention. After working at Del's for a week, I realized that the owner, Maryanne, was a loud, disrespectful and obnoxious woman that was derogatory and down right disgusting to the employees for her own sick enjoyment. After watching Maryanne yell at some of the employees so fiercely that they were brought to tears, I decided to at least stay on her good side. Maryanne told me things like, she receives an illegal inspection each year. Although I was on her good side, each and every day, from the day I interviewed, at least one person quit or was fired. Some days, multiple people were let go or quit. All of the cooks are paid under the table, hence the fact that if you ask for anything, your server tells you that it will be a fifty cent, dollar or two dollar up charge. Not a single thing about this restaurant is legit or legal.

Each time a customer had a complaint, the servers were to bring the issue immediately to Maryanne or John Del or Pizza John. One of those managers would then just comp the entire bill and often times give free drinks to the customer. To many customers, the comp of an entire bill sounds great, in case they had an issue with the food. However, after about five weeks of working at Del's, one of my customers found a cockroach baked into their lasagna. Maryanne comped their entire bill, got them free drinks, made them food to go and then gave them dessert. As a customer, if I find a cockroach baked into my lasagna, the last thing I want is more food from your establishment. The last straw for me also occurred that evening. I went downstairs to the basement to get some napkins, I saw a few mice (or rats; not really sure the difference) running around. I immediately ran upstairs and left the job. I urge you to not eat at this place because it is so disgusting and the staff is treated like absolute crap. I have already contacted the Allegheny County Health Department, Better Business Bureau and the Department of Labor and Industry, but I really want people to understand the disgusting nature of this place.
