Owners Bernie and Linda Watson created LJ's BBQ to replicate the feel of the 'Eat it 'n Beat It' authentic roadside barbecues that Bernie's family from Arkansas and Virginia had come to love. LJ's is named after Bernie's wife, Linda and his late grandmother Miss Leola Jean, whose recipes fill the menu. LJ's opened in 2001 to a host of critical reviews including 'Best of Rhode Island'. Today, LJ's continues to offer outstanding family values and genuine down home cooked meals. LJ's has achieved their proven track record as an Award Winning Barbecue Restaurant by specializing in the preparation and service of hickory smoked ribs, chicken, beef, and pork, prepared by low and slow cooking in their customized barbecue pit. I went for the first time yesterday I was with a large group of people, who were considering making LJ's a monthly destination let me assure you this will not be happening. I ordered the Pan cake sampler, this contains one of each of their pancakes, One regular pancake, one bacon crumble pancake and one sweet potato pancake. After placing my order I realized that the bacon crumble pancake had bacon mixed into the pancake batter which I fond gross ans the sweet pot had nuts in in witch would make me ill. So i REQUESTED TO CHANGE MY ORDER AND THEY REFUSED TO DO SO,

I was extremely hungry so I choked down the dry over cooked pancakes and ate around the nuts. The pancakes sat like lead in my stomach until about 8 that night was sick the whole day.To add insult to injury they had the nerve to add the tip to my bill. So they dictated what I would pay for terrible service.

I called the restaurant to complain and asked for the manager she told me she would do nothing about if you want horrible food and rude service LJls is the place for you, if not stay away!

pulled pork - more like chunky pork - excellent

I had dinner here last week with two friends. I've been to LJs several times and I've always enjoyed the food a great deal. Unfortunately, this time I had a very unpleasant waitress. We felt pressured to order. She wasn't very friendly/helpful. When we gave her payment we never told her to that the bill was all set and we had to ask for our change back. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back, but if I do, I'll be sure to ask for a different waitress.
