04/18/2008 - Nice service
Nice service, tasty food; polenta more like a soft corn mush. Vegetables can be soft soggy. Varied wine list. Everything fresh and presented well. Go there for the deserts; quite yummy chocolate dish as well as the creme brulee. You can ask them to turn down the music too.

After experiencing Bouchon in Santa Barbara recently, I have to say I'm puzzled by any good reviews I've seen. Very disappointing.
There is nothing special about the location, decor, service or food. Standard retail space, no booths, only uncomfortable wooden chairs for seating. Dim lighting can't hide the fact that very little effort or expense went into design of the space.
Even worse is the slow service and bad food. We waited well over an hour for our entrees, even though it was a quiet Tuesday night. The NY steak was tough, the salmon had to be rejected twice, and the lamb left an aftertaste that lasted for hours.
We all agreed Bouchon was a big disappointment. Not recommended.
