Had a friend over for his birthday, was gonna hang at our bar and order takeout subs, decided we would surprise him with a really nice meal, should've ordered subs. Overpriced and I could've made way better myself, so could the sub shop at a lot lower price! Very disappointing. The chicken parm tasted like a frozen dinner!

Trattoria Amalfi in Salem NH is the best Italian restaurant around. It can compete and outclass the best Italian restaurants at the North End of Boston. Great food and excellent service go hand in hand. Kudos to Jerry and his family for owning such a great restaurant.

We took out of town guest for dinner on 8/ 26 and was disappointed with the dinners. Our guests were from Italy and I could tell that they were also disappointed. Our waitress was very good except she really was anxious to serve us. Barely had time to sit and get comfortable. This is our favorite restaurant, and was suprised at the quality of the food. I hope that this will not be a trend. Don't ruin what you had.

Valentine's Day was my first visit to Trattoria Amalfi; immediately I was in awe. Trattoria's atmosphere of Elegance and Sophistication ~ the glimmering white lights, private booths, and the enchantment of violinists certainly set the stage for a most memorable night. The food exquisite!
I must add however, the one disappointment-especially being Valentine's Day:
Shortly after being seated, I noticed the music stopped. I had hoped one of the violinist would have circulated to our booth or, at the least, continue playing throughout the restaurant, as we dined. However, violinists disappeared along with the romantic ambiance they created. At this point, the romance of dining became a 'just a wonderful diner' entertained by typical restaurant chatter. One would think these musicians would play through the evening, as customers enjoyed each course, and perhaps offer to serenade couples obviously together celebrating a romantic day. (In fact, I had secretly wanted for one to stroll and stop by our booth).
So, as you can see, the missing music was a disappointing piece. "Missing" and "Disappointing", because I may never have noticed its absence if never introduced to its enchanting magic immediately entering Trattoria Amalfi that evening.

This family owned and operated establishment is the best in the area when it comes to authentic Italian cuisine. We actually prefer it to The North End. The great and friendly wait staff are always a pleasure as well as very knowlegeable. They also have a nice and reasonably priced wine selection.Call ahead as they are usually very busy, especially weekends.

My wife and I went there several months ago and had a great experience. The food was superior and the portions were incredible. Tonight (Tuesday, July 14), we went there again for our anniversary dinner and took our 14-year-old son--whom we told about the huge portions. Tonight was the complete opposite of what we experienced a few months ago.
We were stuck in a corner of the restaurant almost walled off with the rest. We didn't place our orders till about a half-hour after we were seated. When our dinners arrived, the portions seemed to be about half what we experienced months ago (I just figured it may have been the economy and they were just trying to cut back) but the prices were the same. The waitress never came around to us to make sure everything was ok and we went throughout our dinner without drinks. My wife's Chicken Amalfi--which she raved about before--was dry, plus the overall taste was subpar. Our son was completely underwhelmed with his Chicken Broccoli Alfredo. My Frutti DeMar was good, but, again, the number of seafood it came with was vastly diminished from the last time we were there. It wasn't until we had all-but finished our dinners when the waitress came over and told us she had told one of the girls working there serving water to make sure she came over (ultimately the waitress is supposed to make sure her customers are satisfied). My wife couldn't stomach the rest of her dinner, but the waitress took what was left quickly and never asked if she wanted to save it. By the time we spoke up about the drinks, it was still perhaps close to another 10 minutes before someone came over. We had thought about dessert before dinner, but after our experience, we didn't feel like waiting around for another 20 minutes for it to arrive. My wife mentioned to the waitress when we received the bill about the service and all the waitress could say was, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry," but never once offered to get the manager!
Adding insult to injury, later tonight, I called the restaurant to try to speak with a manager about our experience. When I tried explaining what had happened, he listened a little, but then cut me off and acted like he didn't believe my complaints were valid. He could understand why I might complain about some of the service, but to complain about the food in any way? I might as well have accused his mother of preferring to French kiss a dog. Had I done that, he might have treated me with a little more respect and not done everything he could to get me off the phone as soon as possible. His responses to me were like the waitress: "I'm sorry. I'm sorry you feel that way." Unless we hear differently about some changes to how they conduct business, they've lost two customers who may have given them another shot (and we know a lot of people, so word-of-mouth will spread!)

My wife and I went last night as we had been a gift certifcate 5 months ago. I wish we had used it back then; everything about our dining experience was wonderful. My wife had the Chicken Piccata and loved it. I had the Ravioli special 9 stuffed with portobello mushrooms and shrimp in a pink sauce. It was delicious. Oh, I forgot to mention that there were two each of shrimp and scallops on the plate. We both had wine red and white and were very pleased. Our service staff was very helpful and proficient without hovering.
To the owner(s) and chefs at Trattoria Amalfi, WE WILL BE BACK!!!

I frequently go to amalfi's and always enjoy the food. However last night when we went i ordered the shrimp scampi and it was just awful. The pasta had absolutely no flavor tasted like a bowl of spaghetti with a dap of butter on it.
I didn't say anything to the server because the I did eat the shrimp and they were wonderful. We also had mazarella appetizers and cheese cake for dessert which was very good. Can imagine what happened to your scampisteamship

The food is excellently prepared and presentation lis very eye appealing. Great value for the price.. Rarely advertises but always busy. Truly the star of Broadway. There is no better Italian restaurant in all of Salem NH or the Merrimac Valley.
