This is not a the typical american-mexican restaurant that are pretty common around Ventura County area.
First of all they do not offer complimentary chips and salsa, i did not like that idea at the beginning but then the waitress explained to me that they offer something else instead and then she surprised us with a lovely cup of soup, she explained to us that mexican families eat that soup before their entrees and i was thrilled to try something new it was delicious. Also she told us that at mexico actually don't offer chips and salsa, that is pretty rare and they give you a little bowl of soup or some sort of broth instead which i find pretty interesting.
Next we had a small appetizer, we got taquitos and this ones were filled with mashed potatoes and topped with a bunch of fresh guacamole, cotija cheese and pico de gallo, i must confess that i wasn't that excited to try those because they didn't had meet in them but oooh boy! They were amazing! Just the right amount of potatoes in there, perfectly seasoned, the sour cream was different, didn't taste at all like the one they usually give you at any other mexican restaurant i regretted not to get an order for myself.
Next we had a bowl of something called "carne en su jugo" following the recommendations of the waitress (she was very helpful and kind) AMAZING all the flavors, the smell, i added onions and cilantro and a few drops of a tasty chili oil that she told us in advance it was delicious but very spicy, my husband got the thermidor fish fillet and it was amazing too! The fillet came wrapped in bacon and the cream on top of it was delicious and very well thought, he left his plate clean! And i couldn't finish mine because it was a lot so i had to take a good portion to my house for later, i put it in the microwave and it was delicious still.
We got margaritas because since they just opened they have happy hour everyday all day! So only $10 for a beautiful margarita and it wasn't just pretty it was very tasty too!
We got dessert too and we tried the "chongos" It was a really weird texture almost like chewing soft rubber but the flavor was amazing and definitely it was something i've never tried before but now i have a new favorite!
Service, ambiance, music, food, drinks and the restaurant itself are perfect! Everything was very clean too and the bathrooms are well stocked and super modern.
This place takes a 100/10 and is one of my new favorite spots in Ventura County!
Can't wait to try more stuff of their huge menu!
I must say that it is a little bit pricy but you can tell that every single ingredient is very top quality and the service and flavors make it totally worth it!
I will definitely come back and pretty soon!
