I love India Mahal!! I find myself CRAVING it many times during the week. It is so delicious....such healing...good for what ails you food....very fresh, clean and the staff is very friendly. Don't know who this "Barbara" and "Barb" is on here.....but she does not know much about this Wilmington ICON......yes, India Mahal has been serving Wilmington with excellent, authentic Indian Food for a long time. Thank you India Mahal for your wonderful buffets and evening meal menu!

me and my boyfriend was at india mahal yesterday for dinner we were on date and it was our first time we were trying indian food, we didn't know that wht we need to order but their was an indian waitress who helped us to choose our entrees and bread. anyways we were waiting for our food , we enjoyed there indian music and little conversation with that waitress she was very patient with us we liked her a lot , our food came and we started our food it was like we were missing something in our life, it was sooooooooooo delicious , well prepared, very neat , quantity was more than enough, yummy! we will definiteley be back to try other good stuff.everyone in wilmington should try this place!it's AMAZING!

It is nowhere near authentic. Dishes are all sweetened. Quantity is less as compared to its prices. Its almost double then any other big cities in America. Its better to buy from any chinese buffet at $5/- a pound to go. They do not have any competition in Wilmington, so they are having an Indian food monopoly here. Biryani is not fried soggy-rice with meat in it. Its a rich moghul dish and it takes 4 hours to cook. The taste is awful.

review_stars 05/09/2010 - Tell it like it is
The owner/operators act like they resent your presence when you go there. Cultural differences notwithstanding, they come across being rude. The food quality is no better than average. I would not recommend this place.

We've been dining at India Mahal for 5 years and absolutely love it! It's been a regular weekly treat for our senses. We've sampled numerous Indian restaurants in Florida, California, Atlanta, Chapel Hill and this is by far the finest, most savory and aromatic of any we've tried. Our regular choices include the Navratan Shahi Korma, Mahal Koftas, (mostly vegetarian fare) and Onion Garlic Nan. Several guests of ours report the same satisfaction with both service and taste. Love the redecoration! Sonny is truly artful in his approach to spices and preparation. We appreciate the recognition, friendly welcome and conversation with the owners when we visit. Just a terrific place to dine!

This is one of the filthiest Indian restuarant in all of America. Its no where near authentic Indian food. The staff is rude. The owner also has a son, who is rude too. But, above all these, their prices are exorbitant. I mean, its 3 times more compared to any major city in America. And, the quantity of their meat is so small. I spent $20/-, but where is the meat worth of my money. These guys are typical cheaters, they cheat you on your face. There are a lot of buffets here, you can eat as much as you want and that also good variety of food at 1/3rd of the money you spend at filthy places like this India Mahal. These guys fool people in the name of exotic food. Customer service is very bad especially with that lil young boy and his father.

We have been coming to India Mahal for 15 years and it's still a great place to eat. Tandoori Bites has a more visible location, but India Mahal's portions are larger and the prices are lower. The service at IM is much better and more personal. We went to TB's this week and the service was confused to say the least. The nan bread at IM blows TB's away!!! The renovations at India Mahal have greatly improved the atmosphere. We will definitely be back!!

It's Sunday, and I am CRAVING India Mahal. It is healing food. I love their new look....a great renovation. I love all of their dishes, and I wish it was open for lunch today. I don't know how I will ever wait until 5 pm today.

India Mahal always puts a smile on my face. The newly remodeled restaurant has a romantic feel, but also a very nice atmosphere for families. I have no doubt that there is something for EVERYONE at India Mahal. You can choose between, Chicken, Lamb, Seafood, Vegetable, and Tandoor entrees. I can't forget the appetizers, you must try the Samosas, or the Pakoras, or go for the Vegetable Mixed Appetizer. The food comes out very quickly, which is perfect if your trying to catch a movie, or even if your catching up with an old friend. They also do togo, and delivery, which is very convenient. I insist you order some Chai Tea, it is absolutely amazing. All in all, a very nice place to go, you MUST try it for yourself!

We've lived in India and Nepal. The food at The India Mahal is authentic Indian Cuisine at its best. This restaurant is a hidden gem among the melange of restaurants in Wilmington NC. We have just returned from our third vist to this restaurnat in a week--the food gets better with each visit.

Our favorites are the Chicken Tika and the Lamb Rogan-Josh even though we have yet to find a dish we do not love. The lunch buffet is definitely a good deal for the budget conscious person.

Overall we think the prices are very reasonable as this is fine specialty gourmet food. Friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere.

Indian is one of my favorites and I've eaten at many places in many cities of the years.

Went for the buffet.
Decent, but will not blow you away if you've eaten good Indian before.

Given that its the only choice in town I will probably go back again, but its not the type of place I push to go to.

I dont think anyone who wrote their reviews here know much about indian restaurants, please visit one of the indian restaurants in atlannta, new jersey or else where.

This place sucks, the owner and the lady are very arrogant and the food is stale and horrible, sounds like they are left overs of early day buffet.

The place is in ruins badly maintained with very poor service, they are disgrace to indian community. they should shut down or improve in the scale of 1-5 I give this hotel a big 0.

We are huge fans of Indian food. Over the past 20+ years we've traveled over the US, Canada, and much of the globe. We search for Indian restaurants wherever we go. We always come back to India Mahal. Family owned, it has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, it instantly feels like "your restaurant." Prices are extremely reasonable - a fine dinner for two at India Mahal will run you about half of what you will pay in downtown Wilmington. But most of all, and most importantly, the food is excellent. Made from fresh ingredients, the food is simply put - phenomenal. Service is fast and the portions are generous. We highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala (signature dish) and the Chicken Kashmiri Korma. There are a wide variety of dishes to choose from - chicken, lamb, tandoori, vegetarian. Whatever you choose, try the chai tea - India Mahal puts a unique twist on theirs using just the right amount of ingredients to create a tea that is almost a confection. We have been eating at India Mahal every week for 6 years and it gets better every week.

This place is great and I have been going here for the past 5 years (since I've lived in Wilmington). The service isn't like the Ritz Carlton but it doesn't need to be! They get you what you want and bring it as soon as they can. What more could you ask for! Love the food and the family that runs it is nice as well:)

If you enjoy Indian cuisine then all roads must lead to Maple Ave just behind South College Road.Truly a hidden gem.Curry,Tikka,Tandoori, and much more along with Parathas and Nan Bread baked and cooked to perfection by the friendly host family and staff of this very pleasant and comfortable establishment.Buffet is served each lunchtime and offers a variety of dishes + salad bar at a very reasonable price.A truly enjoyable and highly recommendable experience at either lunch or dinner for any lover of Indian Cuisine.

We've enjoyed dinner here several times and plan to try the lunch buffet soon. The menu is extensive, and the beer selection is excellent w/a good variety of Indian beers. I have had a couple of the chicken dishes, and my husband has enjoyed a couple of the lamb choices. We've also had the combination appetizer plate and the naan bread. Everything was prepared and presented very well. Best wishes for success!

I am from NY and just moved to wilmington area. I was craving for indian food so i know i am going to be a regular at this place (yummy). I love the food it is tasty, spicy, has flavor of own its own. Lunch Buffet is the best.

In one word....this place SUCKS!! I have never reviewed food before and never will again.Food is meant to be eaten and enjoyed, not reviewed. But you can't do either with the food here.

This is my favorite restaurant for many reasons. The food is yummy and delicious. Prices are reasonable. Staff and friendly. The atmosphere is clean and calm.

After reading some of the reviews below I was wondering if I had eaten in the same place. I have eaten there just once. Not since 10 years or watching owners switch or something but one thing I can assure you of is the service. People just assume you come in and find your own seat. No concept of host or hostess. As for the ambience being romantic, try it out for yourself. The owner seems to be a paunchy fellow who doesnt care if you need water or tea or coke once he is done with bringing you the first drink. I have had Indian food in a few places and the things to stay away from at a buffet: Fried pakodas (fries are tastier and healthier), anything vegetarian!!

Great food, friendly service, and clean atmosphere. I usually eat thier lunch buffet. The bar has mix of vegetables and non vegetables. Desserts, Breads, and appetizers included as well. The service is fast and friendly. Food is yummy. What else can you ask for. Spend less and get freshly cooked food on your table in no time.

If you are in the town of wilmington, and looking for great indian food, do not forget to stop at the india mahal restaurant. This place is as exotic as its name. The restatuant specializes in north indian cusine which is my favorite. I love thier chicken tikka masal and recommend it to everyone. It a great place for casual dining. Staff is very friendly, helps you pick out dishes if you are new to the cusine. I am absouletly in love with this place. I can eat this food three times a day. I am hooked to this place.

I have been going to this resturant for almost 10 years. I go one to two times a week. I have found the food to be wonderful and the staff is always very friendly. The food is as good as any Indian food that I have tasted in New York City (where I lived for many years) and London.

review_stars 05/06/2008 - MenuPix User
India Mahal has always been my favorite local romantic place. The current owners and waitstaff are friendly if unobtrusive. If you want hot and spicy, you must ask for it. I adore the Palaak Paneer which is curried spinach with cubes of home-made cheese similar to farmers cheese. Along with an order of Na'an bread and a side of Mixed pickle, it is an exotic semi-vegetarian feast. My husband orders the Tandoori chicken and a side of lentils which we trade samples. And the creamy, almond flavored rice pudding is heavenly.
I love the eclectic music and am sometimes treated to a Bollywood video at the cash register stand.

Over priced, same dishes served under different names..okay for lunch buffet..go for A la carte at your own peril

India Mahal is a great restaurant with great service, despite that the service can be sometimes hard to understand.
