I used to love to eat at Shorty's. My wife and I discovered Shorty's 14 years ago - the restaurant they used to operate in Bedford NH. The menu back then had lots of interesting items, and my favorites then were the bolder, spicier choices including "911" Pasta and Pacific Rim Salad.

Over the years the menu evolved to a more bland set of choices, probably consistent with averages tastes. Catchy names, but the thrill was gone.

We used to eat at Shorty's weekly, but we're down to a couple of visits a year now. The newer sites have plenty of of ambience, and the service is still very good, but the menu is just plain boring.

Bye Bye, Shorty.

Went here for lunch today (Jan 21, 2009) around noon. The parking lot was full but the doors were locked. No one came to the door to let us in. Is this a sign that Shorty's is closing? It just seems very odd to have a full lot and the doors are locked.

I was actually disappointed with this meal. The order was incorrect. Overcooked, dry, no sauce on the chimichangua. The rice was bland. Even the desserts were lousy. The kids were disappointed because they didn't get the gummy worms that were advertised on the menu with theres...ok, over all not a big deal, but really it Is to a 5 yr. old. The fried icecream.....well what can i say, the cookie part was like rubber & tasteless.
They really should have stayed with the original receipe from years ago. Overall was not happy with the entire meal.

Their recent menu change is extremely disappointing. They removed some of their best dishes and really are no better than Chili's. If you want authentic Mexican in the area, visit La Carreta.

I have also eaten very regularly at Shortys in Nashua (and now closed Bedford,NH) for over 15 years, and irrelegularly for the last couple of years because their food selection has deteriorated and got a bit boring. I even ate at their original location in Litchfield,NH and the location they had briefly in Worcester,MA. There's reasons their number of locations has shrunk from half a dozen to just two now...
This restaurant has been great with wacky tex-mex in years gone by but has now tended to rather dull tex-mex-at-best type food. For example, they used to have an excellent dish called Chicken Citrus Sangria unequalled anywhere and that they claimed on their menu was their most popular dish - but they took it off the menu as they slipped into more of a GroundRound-ish style of food.
Their tomatillo salsa and spicy salsa acompaniments as well as their regular salsa are sometimes good although their quality is inconsistent.
Their drinks are ok but no better than Margaritas or La Caretta.

Great food for a great price

I don't know who the "phantom gourmet" of Nashua is, but they could not have eaten at he Shortys I know. My husband and I have been going to Shortys for at least 15 years, and while their menu has changed, it has been consistently good. The food is great and the margaritas are the best around. If you need a dish with more heat, all you have to do is ask.

Horrible Service and Food. Wait staff are not informed about food or ingredients

The food here is very bland and not what I would classify as true Mexican. I like spices and flavor in my Mexican and this place comes up short. With so many other options in Nashua for Mexican, I would definately opt for one of the others!

Everything I liked about this restaurant has been taken off the menu. They recently also changed their ribs which were previously my favorite ribs in Nashua. The last time I got them they were small, terrible things. I will not go to this restaurant again.

This restaurant has been great in years gone by but has tended to rather dull tex-mex-at-best food. For example, they used to have an excellent dish called Chicken Citrus Sangria unequalled anywhere and that they claimed on their menu was their most popular dish - but they were stupid enough to take it off the menu as they slipped into more of a GroundRound-ish style of food.
Though I will give them credit for reinstating Carribean Jerk Chicken which is fairly good.
Their tomatillo salsa and spicy salsa acompaniments as well as their regular salsa are usually good.
Their original Pasta from Hell is thankfully ancient history, although you may achieve the same impossible level of spicyness by going to the India Palace restaurant in North Nashua and asking for a suitable dish (eg. Baingan Patiala Masala or Chicken Mughlai) to be very spicy!

Blandest mexican you will find anywhere. Great for somebody who doesn't actually like mexican food :)
